What are Your Trading Values?
Who do you care about? Who do you like to hang out with?
My Wife, My daughters, my trading community (started to list them out but don’t want to miss anyone)
What matters to you?
Money, Time, Happiness - left a career that paid very well but wasn’t satisfying to pursue trading and podcasting, so time and happiness rate higher than money now
personal image - i think i care about this a lot more than i want to admit… I want people to think I’m a good trader, a good podcaster, a good person, intelligent. But i also want people to think that because its true, not because of an image i present
honesty - My wife helped me discover how powerful this one can be, she made it a priority and it strengthen our relationship more than I’d ever have thought. I believe that in order to be successful in trading, business and life, you have to be honest with yourself and the people you deal with.
accuracy - if i say something, i want it to be accurate and I’ll feel shitty if i give out bad information
What gets you fired up?
stimulating conversations - why i think i enjoy podcasting so much. I really enjoy discovering what gets other people excited. it’s like solving a puzzle on the fly and I’ve only got 60m or less to find it or the interview won’t be very good.
fired up may not be the right phrase, but deadlines tend to be what kicks me into gear to get shit done. have an episode going out in two weeks? I’ll edit it next week and make the page the day of rather than get ahead.
a good argument - Not contentious, a good argument is when either side makes a point that causes the other to reevaluate their stance
What inspires you? What infuriates you?
Possibilities - New ideas are exciting because of their potential, but as that potential starts to be realized, i tend to lose interest/focus Stories of people overcoming adversity - on the flip side, people complaining about adversity and doing nothing to change their situation infuriates me.
troubleshooting computer issues - even worse when I’m trying to help someone else. I get annoyed because I’m usually just googling the answer because it feels like they’d rather waste my time than their own
losing because of a mistake - I hate it when i lose because i missed something or didn’t see a move
getting stopped out just before the move in my direction, or stopping just short of my target and going back to b/e
people who don’t listen in conversations - I listened to what you said, you can’t show the courtesy to reciprocate? (felt myself getting fired up typing that out)
What makes you sad? Happy? Angry? Scared?
sad - seeing people with zero aspirations. Seeing people stuck in shitty situations that were caused by someone/something else and no fault of their own
Happy - discovering new things, whether it’s knowledge, skills or learning more about myself. Being appreciated/validation
Angry - I get angry/frustrated when i don’t have the answers to a problem being discussed or it’s outside of our control. If we get a tornado watch, i’m not going to worry about tornadoes until the sirens start going off. I’ll worry about something once my actions can change the outcome. Also when things don’t work as expected, or when delays or interruptions keep me from accomplishing a task
Scared - Dying - I’m afraid/sad when i think about all the things that’ll be discovered after I’m gone. I want to see where humanity’s path takes it. What does our civ look like in another 100 years? 1000 years? I hate that I’m going to miss all that
What do you enjoy? What “floats your boat”?
Billiards - playing a game of 8 or 9 ball is like solving a puzzle
Strategy games like dominoes, poker and chess - I analyzing moves and probabilities
open windows in rain storms - rest of the family hates storms but i love them, the sounds, the smells, the freshness of rain
When do you feel grateful or appreciative? For what?
I actually tend to be more grateful/appreciative of what i have than most. I normally am able to look at events as being a positive for me. If i got into a car accident, I’ll be grateful nobody was hurt. if someone was hurt, I’d be grateful nobody died. if somebody died, I’d probably be grateful it wasn’t me or anyone close to me
losing or the thought of losing something makes me appreciate things, the downside of that is that I’ve taken that thing for granted until the thought of losing it comes up.
Whenever someone goes out of their way to do something nice for me or someone I care about. It feels good to know that other people care about you
When do you feel you’re living life your way? Doing what?
when were doing special projects for our podcasting business. words cannot express how amazing it felt to cover Boston blockchain week and getting paid to do something I thoroughly enjoy
A good book and a quiet beach (maybe a fishing pole) and I’m happy with life
Values:
Integrity - With myself and everyone i interact with
Humility - being able to admit when you don’t know, acknowledging your own faults
Empathy - seeing things from other peoples point of view. Political discourse could use some of this…
Loyalty - two way street, i’m fiercely protective of the people who’ve been loyal to me in the past
Justice
Community - Sean thought this might be filling the void of not being close with my real family and i can’t disagree
Personal connections
Innovation - as much as i love learning, this has to be in the list
